Tips For Working From Home During Corona Days

1 min reading time

Due to the Corona measures, most companies have voluntarily or necessarily switched to working from home. If you are doing this for the first time, you may find it quite challenging: Working from home may not be as easy and fun as you imagine, especially if you have a crowded home. However, by following a few simple tips, working from home can become easy, fun, and much more efficient.

Set Your Working Hours

If you think the most enjoyable part of working from home is to wake up at any time you want, we have bad news for you: If you change your usual working hours, you have to work harder and longer. If your normal work routine is between 8 am and 6 pm, for example, continue on exactly. In other words, do not start working on that day at 9 in the morning or do anything related to work after 6 in the evening just because you slept late. Otherwise, you cannot create a schedule and be productive: Working from home does not mean working whenever you want.

Work In A Separate Room

You can't work in a room with "foot traffic", like a living room or kitchen: Just like in a real office, you need a special area, albeit small, that will be under your control. You cannot cut the noise completely, but at least you can reduce it and avoid distractions. Let all family members know that this particular area is for business purposes and explain that you do not want to be disturbed during working hours unless it is really an emergency. This does not mean that you cannot socialize with your family members during short breaks. On the contrary, such short social activities can be quite useful: A study by Buffer on 2,500 people working from home shows that "loneliness" is the second most reported problem. For this reason, don't forget to socialize with your family members at short intervals, but make sure that you have a space that you will not be disturbed when you need to work.

Dress Like You Are Going To Work

We know that you want to sit in front of your computer with your pajamas, because we are often tempted by the same thought. The problem is that working with pajamas reduces productivity considerably. If we are not dressed as required by the job, it becomes difficult for us to concentrate. More importantly, we become more inclined to laziness. Of course, you don't have to walk around in a suit, that's not what we are saying. The important thing is that you shouldn't use your “bed clothes” for work: You can wear a pantsuit or any other outfit you will be comfortable with - as long as you don't work with your pajamas, you are good.

Do Not Lose Your Focus

Do not keep the TV on or listen to music while working. Maybe you were working like this when you were in the office, but the situation has changed now: Distractions such as TV and music will be much more effective in the home environment. While listening to the news, for example, it is possible to lose track of time and spend hours. If you were in the office, you would have a friend who would warn you or a boss that would ask you to return to reality, but now, you are at home: You have to use self-control much more strictly. Set your break times in advance and take care of what can distract you during those hours. For example, if you want to learn the latest COVID-19 news, wait for your break time. Speaking of which, we recommend that you stay away from demoralizing news during your working hours: Just focus on your job and try not to think of anything else. Working from home will not be as easy and comfortable as you would expect, but you can follow these simple tips to make it surprisingly efficient and enjoyable.
